With the release of the eagerly anticipated Twilight movie, British actor and heart throb Robert Pattinson has been thrust into overnight popularity. Playing the 17 year old vampire Edward Cullen, Pattinson has set the hearts of teenage girls and their mothers racing all over the world.

The movie Twilight has been a huge box office success in Northern America. Raking in $200 million in under a month this movie has even knocked the latest James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace” out of its number one position. Twilight is of course the first in 4 books about a pair of star crossed teenage lovers. Star crossed because one is human and the other is a vampire who attends the local high school and is seen in daylight hours.

The story encompasses all aspects of teenage love including forbidden fruit, unrequited love, best friends, loyalty, secrets, and familial obligations and responsibilities. Throw in a whole family of supernatural characters as the Cullen family vampire coven, not to mention the local Indian tribe who can convert into wolves, and you have a pretty riveting set of stories.

* Robert Pattinson was born in England on 13th May, 1986.

* Prior to Twilight, Pattinson was best known for his role as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005).

* In 2005 Robert Pattinson was awarded by Times Online the “British Star Of Tomorrow”.

* Rob Pattinson has also modeled and is a musician.

* According to Pattinson himself, he only ever joined a dramatic group at the age of 15 because “there were lots of pretty girls”.

* Robert Pattinson was on the brink of giving up acting prior to being selected for Twilight. He had only persevered with acting because he realized it was too late to start university.

* In a recent Robert Pattinson interview the actor revealed that “I don’t watch my stuff, ever …. it makes me feel nauseous watching myself….. I’m just stupidly self-conscious.”

* According to Pattinson himself he is terrible at sports and baseball in particular. In fact Twilight producer Catherine Hardwicke actually hired a baseball coach to try and ensure that Pattinson’s scenes in the Cullen family baseball match looked authentic.

* Robert Pattinson has recently gone against studio advice and had his hair cut. He claims to have not washed his hair for 4 years!!

* Robert Pattinson showcases his musical talent with his own song “Never Think” being included on the Twilight soundtrack.

* Robert Pattinson will be next seen on the big screen portraying the artist Salvador Dali in the movie “Little Ashes”.

One thing’s for sure, Robert Pattinson and Twilight may have become overnight money making phenomena, but neither the series nor the actor will be vanishing from our radar anytime soon.
